Welcome to Willow Tree Kennels

Willow Tree Kennels is a dog and cat boarding facility located on 3 acres 7 miles north of Durango in the beautiful Animas Valley. Willow Tree Kennels has served Durango area pets and their owners for over 25 years. We work hard to ensure that your pet is loved and well cared for during his or her stay.

Shane and Susan have owned Willow Tree Kennels since 2001. Susan’s grandparents ran a dog and cat rescue, so being around lots of pets was the norm. When Willow Tree came up for sale, Shane thought it would be the perfect fit for Susan – and it was! Jael and Sarah, their two legged kids, seem to be following in her footsteps.

Shane assists Matt with repairs and maintenance during our slower seasons, and becomes King of the Play Yards during our busy seasons.

We provide peace of mind for you, the owner, as we welcome your beloved companion animals to our “home away from home.”

Boarding and Daycare Frequently Asked Questions

What Vaccinations does my dog or cat need?

Puppies up to 4 months: Two rounds of puppy boosters.

Puppies and Dogs over 4 months of age we require current Rabies, Distemper, Parvo, and Bordatella. We require Bordatella every 6 months. When you take your dog to the Veterinarian please tell them you are boarding your dog. Bordatella is the vaccine that is not necessarily given during annual visits unless you are boarding.

Cats: Current Rabies, Feline Leukemia, Feline Distemper

When you make a reservation with us we will ask for your current Veterinarian information and we will call them and confirm your pets vaccination records.

We follow the Vaccine recommendations of your Veterinarian.

Can I bring the vaccine records myself?

Yes. Please call us first so we can talk with you and make sure all vaccines are current. Unfortunately, we can’t let a pet into our kennel without current vaccines.

Should I bring my own food?

If your dog or cat is on a special diet or has a sensitive stomach we recommend bringing your own food so your pet does not get an upset stomach. We do provide a high quality kibble for cats and dogs called Precise at no additional charge. We have adult, sensitive, and senior varieties. Many of our boarders choose to use our food and are very happy with the results.

How often do you feed?

We feed twice a day. If your dog or cat free feeds at home they can free feed at our kennel too.

Can I bring toys and bedding?

Yes! If there is a potential that your dog (or cat) will swallow the toys or the stuffing we do not recommend toys. Sometimes dogs will chew beds and blankets at the kennel when they don’t do it at home. If you are unsure we do provide kennel safe toys and fleece bedding at no extra charge! All our kennels come with Kuranda beds which are super comfy dog proof “cots” that keep them off the floor.
